Mr John-Henry Nwosu on Wednesday emerged the new Chairman of the 92-year-old Enugu Sports Club with 274 votes to defeat his two other opponents who scored 254 and four votes respectively.

Nwosu defeated Mr Jude Ezegwui and Chief Ogbuja Ogbuja who scored 254 votes and four votes respectively.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Obi Nwude, announced Nwosu the winner after a keenly contested election in Enugu.

Nwosu replaces the former chairman, Mr Onyeka Onwe, who served his two-year tenure at the club.

In his acceptance speech, Nwosu pledged to restore the past glory of the club, founded in 1929.

Nwosu said he would automate the club to ensure security, introduce activities to boost its revenue and carry every member along in his tenure.
He thanked members for voting him and assured them that he would not disappoint them.

The new chairman said he will run an open-door policy and urged his opponents to join him in taking the club to greater heights.
